I have always been interested in drawing and painting people: portraits that capture a particular moment, a small glimpse into what they are like. I love how a person’s personality can be shown through the art piece through a slight expression- a lifted eyebrow or a curved lip can make all the difference. I’ve also liked experimenting with different tones and palettes, branching out into more richly colorful pieces rather than staying in my comfort zone with less color and more moderate hues. I’ve learned a lot by practicing and trying new things each time but, at the same time, recycling some of the tricks and tips I learned along the way. Finally, painting/drawing someone you love, know, admire, respect- whatever connection you have to them- makes the whole artistic process more interesting and personal; you feel emotions while you create and those emotions lead to more dynamic and personal pieces- which is what portraits are all about: human connection.
