This was my second ever painting using acrylic. It is my largest piece so far. I made this painting shortly after my grandfather died. This painting is made to honor his Legacy. He was a great man. He created a huge company from the ground up and supplied thousands of jobs. Guided by a philosophy of giving back, my grandfather gave generously of his time and financial resources to causes that mattered deeply to him. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Beth Israel Hospital from 1991-1994 and held the title of Trustee Emeritus at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. My grandfather was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease retired shortly after, but continued to dedicate his efforts to helping people—specifically those suffering from neurological diseases. He launched Link Medicine Corporation; a life-sciences company devoted to developing disease-modifying therapies to treat neurodegenerative diseases. After a noble struggle with Parkinson's disease, he passed away. On the day of his funeral a group of deer stopped by to watch as the casket was being lowered. It was very powerful to witness. In this painting I wanted to acknowledge that he is gone, but also that his legacy will be preserved. He has made big shoes to fill. He is the man with the tall shadow. Love you Grandpa.
